Eisenhower Lego League Buzzzzzes Their Way to State!
FIRST Lego League consist of 3 equally important components: Lego League Core Values, a team Project, and a Robotics competition.
The Eisenhower 5 Star Stingers competed at the regional tournament in Dubuque in December. At the regionals, we competed against 30 teams ranging in ages from 9-14 (4th through 8th grade). The top 8 teams were selected to compete at State in Ames- and we were among that group!
We then traveled to Ames to compete on Jan.15th. We competed in 3 robotics rounds, a project presentation, a core values interview, and a robotics interview. At state, our highest robot score was 107 pts! We ended up bringing home a trophy for 2nd place in the project research category.
We are so proud of our team this year, we had 8 new members and 2 returning members! To make it to state AND receive 2nd place for our project was a HUGE accomplishment!

DUBUQUE, IOWA—The Foundation for Dubuque Public Schools (FDPS) will announce a $70,000 gift from the family of the late Judi Chandlee in support of classroom grants across the district on Friday, January 6th. The announcement will be made at Eisenhower Elementary School during a 2:00pm assembly celebrating kindness, the character word of the month. Chad and Laura Chandlee, in addition to other members of the family, will be present to participate in the assembly.
Judi Chandlee served Dubuque’s students and families for more than 30 years as a kindergarten teacher at Eisenhower Elementary school. She passed away in 2011, after battling cancer. This significant gift from Judi’s family has been given to memorialize what would have been her 70th birthday, and to show support for all teachers and students in Dubuque’s public schools.
The Judi Chandlee Tribute to Teachers fund is an endowment, or permanent fund, invested with FDPS’ partner agency, the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque. The annual earnings will be used to provide classroom grants for current teachers in the Dubuque Community School District, as overseen by FDPS. Friends, family, school district staff, and the public are invited to make their own charitable gifts to this fund, in support of grants to teachers now, and forever.

The kids enjoyed his presentation and many purchased books to take home!
2nd Graders Visit the Water Treatment Plant
2nd grade students took a very interesting field trip to the Dubuque Water Treatment Plant! The water treatment plant is located next to Sutton Pool, down by the river. Students got to see how the water is tested, cleaned, moved through the different parts of the plant and then sent out to the people of Dubuque. Thank you for hosting our students for this great field trip!
